# Frog for macOS > Frog is a configurable native macOS toolkit with writing, Explain, dictation, window tools, command search, clipboard, notes, scripts, App cleaner, optional Mr. Usage, Stay awake, and System monitor, plus a frog command that AI agents can use, also to build plugins for you. Local AI runs on Apple silicon; cloud providers are optional. Official website: https://frog.beffa.xyz/ Source repository: https://github.com/t1llo/frog Download and release notes: https://github.com/t1llo/frog/releases/latest These guides describe Frog 1.0.42, the published download as of October 29, 2026. Download links lead to the latest published release. Frog requires macOS 14 or later. Built-in speech and text inference requires Apple silicon and explicit model downloads. Cloud providers are optional; cloud-backed rules send relevant text or audio to the selected service. Each rule chooses its own model. The Mac app has no required account, analytics, or telemetry. Website analytics is separate. Features controls tool enablement; newly added optional tools default off. Disabled tools stop owned work while retaining settings. Models contains Local models and Providers. Clipboard keeps 100 text items in memory only. Notes, snippets, shelf references, and scripts use a private store separate from configuration exports. Mr. Usage adds a separate menu-bar readout and popup and collects while enabled, even with the dashboard closed; disable or quit removes it and stops collection. Its display choices are portable, but credentials and readings are not. It uses originating-tool credentials without OAuth refresh and sends no transcripts to usage endpoints. Scripts run explicitly with a 60-second timeout, bounded output, and process-group cleanup. Stay awake sessions start off, default to four hours, and stop on normal quit or below 20% battery while unplugged; administrator passwords are entered only in Terminal. Explain shows an answer about selected text in a panel without replacing it; it sends the selection, the rule’s instructions and, when switched on, the surrounding text to the rule’s model. Windows snaps windows to screen edges and Shift zones, opens a layout picker, and has 23 layout/control actions; while it is off, the layouts are under Shortcuts → Windows. App cleaner moves an app and the files it leaves behind to the Trash after a confirmation and never deletes or empties the Trash. Learning from command-bar choices is off by default and keeps a private local file. Appearance offers eleven themes and independent window/popup transparency. Shortcuts → Other has 28 native actions. Plugins add sandboxed pages and command-bar commands that do only what the user approves; AI agents build them with the frog plugins commands, and the plugin directory lists plugins people shared. ## Guides - [Frog for macOS: toolkit features and guides](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/index.md): Explore Frog’s configurable Mac toolkit: command bar, writing, Explain, dictation, windows, clipboard, notes, scripts, App cleaner, usage, and Stay awake. - [Install and set up Frog on macOS](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/getting-started/index.md): Install Frog on macOS 14+, choose local models or an external provider, review permissions, and run your first writing or dictation rule. - [Choose your Frog toolkit: features and navigation](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/features/index.md): Enable the Frog tools you use, find their pages, and understand what stops or stays saved when you disable a feature. - [Frog command bar: search, calculations, and commands on Mac](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/command-bar/index.md): Use Control–Option–Space to search Mac apps, windows, files, macOS settings, and enabled Frog tools, calculate, uninstall apps, and learn from your choices. - [Writing rules: proofread and rewrite text on Mac | Frog](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/writing-rules/index.md): Use Frog’s writing rules to proofread, rewrite, or translate selected text on macOS with custom instructions, model choices, and keyboard shortcuts. - [Explain: ask about selected text on Mac | Frog](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/explain/index.md): Ask about text you select in any Mac app with Frog’s Explain and read the answer in a panel next to it, with follow-ups, notes, and a selection bubble. - [Local dictation and speech-to-text on Mac | Frog](https://frog.beffa.xyz/docs/dictation/index.md): Dictate into Frog using local speech models or an external transcription provider.
